Tipsforeatingchips Dip Guide!
This list, unlike the flavour list, is not in any particular order. It will be broken into 2 parts: dips for crisps, and dips for fries.
Crisp Dips:
- Hommus
- Ranch
- Guacamole
- Roasted Red Capsicum
- French Onion Dip
Hommus, Hummus, Hoummus, or whambourts, is a dip made mostly with chick peas and crushed sesame seeds, seasoned with lemon, garlic, olive oil, and salt. As such, the flavour is acidic, creamy, and earthy, making its savoury taste a very good complement to most chip flavours. Hommus is also a very versatile ingredient, as you can use it for sandwiches, dressings, and a healthier alternative to some creamy foods (sour cream and butter). Overall, hommus is not only a great option for dipping chips, but a versatile cooking ingredient you should own nonetheless.
Ranch is a dip made with mayonnaise, buttermilk, sour cream, fresh herbs, garlic, and lemon juice/vinegar. So as you can imagine it tastes pretty good. (unless you're lactose intolerant, allergic to eggs, or are a vampire). The flavour is acidic, tangy, and creamy, and it has a similar role as hommus by displaying the fatty vs acidic food combination that always tastes great. Ranch can also be used as a spread for sandwiches, as a salad dressing, and as a dip for non-chip foods.
Guacamole, which comes from the Aztec word "a dip made with mashed avocado, diced tomato and onion, crushed garlic, lemon juice, and sometimes salt", has, shockingly, a tangy, acidic, and creamy taste. Round of applause everyone! But as they say, "if it aint broke, don't fix it", and this flavour profile is about the furthest thing from broken there ever was. Guacamole is also able to be used as a spread for things like toast and sandwiches, and a topping for next Taco Tuesday. It also happens to be my favourite dip on this list.
The Roasted Red Capsicum dip, specifically from Red Rock Deli, is a really good dip. It's sweet, chunky, and tomatoey for some reason even though it has no tomatoes in it. The specific dip I'm talking about is the Red Rock Deli roasted red capsicum dip, which of all these you should try the most. This one goes especially well with the cheesy end of teh chip flavour spectrum I thought of and will not elaborate on. Actually, maybe I will. Later. Right now I need less work to do on this site.
My blind reaction to the dip was: "mmm. mmm that's good. Yeah that's really good", which is a really boring reaction. But it's not like I solved world peace or anything so I guess it's a fine reaction for a good dip. Maybe even a "yeah that's really good" dip. Anyway, the dip has obviously an onion-y taste, but it's kind of a mix between sweet and tangy and I think for being unique it's a pretty good dip. If these were ranked I honestly don't know what I would do Because there are a lot less bad or even mediocre dips and more just similar but good dips. Contrary to popular belief, french onion dip is not designed to have french onions dipped in it.
Fry Dips:
- Ketchup
- Is well known
- Tastes good
- Everyone has it
- Barbecue Sauce
- Mayonnaise
Ketchup, or tomato sauce, is actually not made of tomatoes. It is actually made of microchips so that the government can control us all. But the tomatoes in the sauce give it quite a sweet flavour, which for some reason food companies decided needs more sugar. They also add vinegar, giving it a sweet and sour flavour. That being said, everyone knwos what ketchup tastes like, and probably uses it exclusively on their fries. Now here's where someone would say "oh but there's so much more to adding condiments to fries and blablabla", and sure. But ketchup:
Barbecue sauce, at least where I'm from, is kind of just ketchup but with even more sugar and some onion powder. So it tastes like that.
Take what I said about ranch, apply it to fries, and remove some of the seasoning. You can also just put ranch on fries.
Sorry to end this one on a super dull note, but fry dips are just less interesting. At the end of the day you can always just dip your fries in crisp dips, it's not like the chip police will- hold on. who's at the door? AAAAHHH NO I DIDN'T MEAN TO PUT HOMMUS ON MY FRIES!! A-
